We would like to take a moment to again thank Paul Murphy of Bluefish Guitars  in Plymouth for graciously opening (actually not closing) his doors for our Picking Party last Saturday evening.  Dave Pierson led the way with some arrangements and original compositions and former MFGS board member Kevin Tarnas also performed along with several other members.  Thanks to all who showed up to play or just watch and thanks again Paul

We are anxiously awaiting our first concert of 2011 on Saturday January 29th @ 7:30PM.   We were so fortunate to be able to book the International Guitar Night tour for the first time.  We hope that you can make it out to Callahan's for this great concert.  Callahan's has info on their location @   Callahan's will open their doors @ 6pm for dinner and drinks so come out early, grab great seats and get ready for a fabulous night of great guitar music.

There is no formal guitar workshop prior to the concert because the guys come all the way from Milwaukee from a performance the night before.  If you have interest in a lesson from one of the guitarists we can talk to them about perhaps a small workshop or lessons on Sunday.  Call us if you have interest and we can discuss this with the musicians 248-646-4030.

The International Guitar Night (IGN) is the world's premier touring guitar festival originating in the year 2000. This is the 11th annual tour. Each show brings together some of the most interesting and innovative acoustic guitarists in the world to exchange musical ideas in a public concert setting performing solo and as a duet.

The tour this year includes Pino Forastiere from Rome, Italy.  Forastiere graduated with a degree in classical guitar from Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome.   After hearing Michael Hedges groundbreaking CD, Aerial Boundaries, Forastiere changed his approach to the acoustic guitar and is one of the most accomplished of todays contemporary fingerstyle guitarists. "He employs a dazzling blend of slapping, tapping,   strumming, altered tunings, and harmonics combined with classical phrasing and a focus on distinct and addictive melodies-  Guitar Player Magazine.

Next is Brazil's Alexandre Gismonti who is the son of legendary guitarist Egberto Gismonti.  He has received much critical praise in both Brazilian and foreign press.  In 2001 the Uruguayan newspaper Brecha wrote "The son of Egberto is a young guitar virtuoso. Alexandre's approach is very different from that of his father...he plays with an amazing interpretive authority.

Guitarist Clive Carroll hails from England. He was recently described as "the best and most original young acoustic guitar player and composer in Britain- Acoustic Guitar Magazine.  In 1999 Carroll was encouraged by John Renbourn (Pentangle) to record his first CD.  Carroll went on to become the only guitar player to ever win the Essex Young Musician of the Year Award.

Finally IGN founder Brian Gore is from San Francisco.  He is considered the 'Poet of the Guitar"  Gore's strong well developed melodies and intriguing chord sequences set him apart from the myriad of steel-string fingerstylists who compose in open tunings.  His finely crafted poetic “songs without words' takes the listener on a spellbinding emotional ride - Acoustic Guitar Magazine.
