Stefano Barone performing in Ann Arbor - Detroit

Dear Friends of MFGS

First of all we would like to thank Maneli Jamal for a fantastic concert on March 19th. His thematic music was interwoven with the stories of his life and how he and his music got to this point!  Thanks Maneli and come back again!

Now for the music!

Italy's Stefano Barone is one of the most creative contemporary fingerstylists performing today. He is touring Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and then out to New Mexico with our good friend Michael Chapdelaine.

8pm Wednesday April 6th @ Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor
 415 N 4th Ave, Ann Arbor, Phone:(734) 769-2999

Tickets are available through Kerrytown's web site and they range from $5 for students up to $25 for front row seats  Come out and support this great venue and we may be able to bring more fingerstyle guitar out that way!

Stefano will be in Michigan for a while and he will also be performing at the Detroit Institute of Arts Film Theater for the Detroit Freep Press Film Festival on Sunday April 3rd at 3:30pm.  Stefano's music was chosen to be the backdrop of video journalist Brian Kaufman's new film called Predator/Prey: The Fight for Isle Royale Wolves. Brian has asked Stefano to perform a short set of music just prior to the world premier of the film.  Tickets are $10 for the double feature movie on Michigan's National Park and Stefano's music is just a bonus.

If you recall Brian Kaufman used the music of the trio Stefano performs with, 'Guitar Republic', for his stunning film on Detroit's infamous Packard Plant at the film festival in 2014. Take a moment and enjoy this trailer (big screen/good speakers) of that film to see how Brian weaves in poetry, music & film

Also for you guitarists out there Stefano will be teaching a free 2 hr masterclass at Oakland University on Tuesday April 5th at 5:30 pm in room 134 at Varner Hall on campus.  You are welcome to come out at the invite of guitar instructor extraordinaire Bret Hoag.  Information can be obtained by clicking on this Facebook  event  If you have any questions on this event you can post them on the Facebook page and don't forget to pass this on to guitar friends who might be interested.  I did say it was free, didn't I?

Stefano will be performing on this Thursday March 31st at the International Center for Creativity 1266 Manning Parkway in Powell Ohio, just north of Columbus. There will be a 'Meet and Greet' just before the concert so check this out if you're in the area and pass this down to your guitar friends in Ohio.

He will also be touring other Michigan cities like the Orpheum in Hancock on April 7th, Federation of Women's Club on April 8th in Marquette,  William Bonifas Arts Center in Escanaba on April 9th,  St. Andrews Church in Big Rapids on April 14th The Red Sky Stage in Petosky on April 15th and finally at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Hall in Traverse City on April 16th.  Please link onto Stefano's web site for more information, and pass this info on to your friends up north!  You can also email for other info   & questions

Also Stefano will be conducting 2 private masterclasses at the Detroit Institute of Music Education (DIME) in Downtown Detroit on April 13th. DIME  DIME has an interesting story and thelanded in Detroit and will be an important aspect  of Detroit's Revitalization.

MFGS would like to thank a few special folks for our ability to continue to bring in world class guitarists to this area.  First of all Bill Keith and all the volunteers at  Trinity House You can help keep Trinity House Going by volunteering there or just attending some of their concerts.

Ann Delisi of WDET's Essential Music Her dedication to music and the arts (even the art of cooking) is unparalleled and all of our performers that are interviewed on her show are so impressed by how comfortable she makes them feel and they always say 'she knows music!

Brian Galloup and Sam Guidry of Galloup Guitars in Big Rapids for sponsoring a great free concert at St. Andrews Church in Big Rapids.

Also a very special thanks to Seamus Shinners of Connermara Concerts in Traverse City for working so hard to keep live music coming up to the Northern Michigan Area
