Friday April 6th - Stefano Barone - Update on Ian Ethan Case

Dear Friends of MFGS

Friday April 6th Stefano Barone will be appearing at Trinity House Theatre in Livonia.  This will be the first Detroit area performance for him on this Midwest tour.  Barone was invited to perform in the US by the Detroit Free Press Film Festival.

"Music plays an important role in making of a documentary film. A song can set the pacing of the edit, reinforce an emotional note and evoke a mood in a single scene or throughout the film. Detroit Free Press senior video producer and director Brian Kaufman use of music is an integral part of his editing process as evident in his films “12th and Clairmount,” “Predator/Prey: The Fight for Isle Royale’s Wolves,” and his latest film “The Wall” that is world premiering at Freep Film Festival this year. And the man behind much of that music is internationally known contemporary acoustic guitarist and composer Stefano Barone".                                             Detroit Free Press

Initially Stefano was playing piano and guitar at a young age in Naples.  In 2003 Stefano first heard the album  "Arial Boundries" by the amazing guitarist Michael Hedges.  Barone changed his approach to music after hearing that and moved to Rome to study composition and technique with Pino Forastiere. He embraced contemporary music, especially American Minimalism along the lines of Steve Reich and Philip Glass.

Stefano Barone was introduced to us by his initial groundbreaking CD 'Particolare#uno' in 2008 and his piece 'Batman/Alexander Supertramp' had over 3.5 million views on YouTube.  His first appearance in the Detroit area was in 2010 with the Italian contemporary trio 'Guitar Republic' consisting of Barone, Pino Forastiere and Sergio Altamura.

Barone has now evolved his music into a powerful dynamic blend of 6 and 10 string guitars along with a multitrack machine and even incorporating a cello bow by adjusting the fretboard of his D-28 Martin guitar.  Here is a short take of Stefano performing a Philip Glass piece 'Facades'.

"Stefano's music is akin to great storytelling, eliciting a broad range of emotions and an even broader range of sounds from an instrument that often sounds nothing like a guitar. As a documentary filmmaker, I was immediately drawn to its power."           Emmy Award Winning Director – Brian Kaufman
