California Guitar Trio this Sunday @ Callahan's

Dear Friends of MFGS……Just a reminder for you to settle into fall with!

Picking Party on Sunday September 19th MFGS board member, and recent attendee of an Interlochen Guitar Festival Workshop, Dave Stuart will host a picking party @ Shelest Music Store in St. Clair Shores from 3pm - 6pm.  Directions can be found on their facebook site  and This is an informal gathering of guitarists or guitar music lovers of all levels. Some come to play, some come to listen.  We share songs, ideas and information about fingerstyle guitar.  Save the date, more information to come. Thanks Gordy for opening up your shop!

The California Guitar Trio.  They will be performing, this Sunday, September 12th @ Callahan's Music Club in Auburn Hills

Performance starts early @ 7pm.  Tickets will be available at the door. General admission for this event is $25.

Best to get there at 6pm, pick out some nice seats. Grab, some grub and spirits, and then enjoy a very special evening of music.

For openers; if you’ve never seen anyone play the Chapman Stick; don’t miss special guest, Glenn Poor man who hails from Southwest Michigan, and is a fabulous performer in his own right. You may see this guy a lot more in the future and wouldn’t it be nice to say you saw him way back in 2010 @ Callahan’s?  Callahan's is just 15 minutes north of our usual venue and maps are available on their site,

California Guitar Trio will stick around after the show to chat about their music and sign a CD copy of their live performance this Sunday! ~ How often do you see that?

There are still open spots for the California Guitar Trio, Guitar Workshop which starts at 3pm on Sunday. Get there 15 to 20 minutes early to set up!  This is really a unique opportunity to spend a couple of hours, hands on, with a trio of truly amazing guitarists. Let’s think……..hmmmm?……to become a renowned accomplished professional guitarist, then study with legendary King Crimson Guitarist Robert Fripp for 5 years in England, and form a trio, and then travel the world performing for 20 years! And, on top of that! ... offer to impart some of what you’ve learned to a handful of guitarists of all levels for 2 hours in a very intimate setting... Let’s call that an offer you should consider (or perhaps, not refuse!). Workshop tickets are $40, but If you attend the guitar workshop your concert tickets are only $10. Call 248-646-4030 if you would like more information.

Next up on our schedule is one of the premier Finger style Guitarist …. Preston Reed. September 25th in Ferndale at the First United Methodist Church, 22331 Woodward.

Billboard Magazine calls him a “Heart stopping tour de force”,

The London Times says  “he’s “In a class of his own” –

The last time we were able to book Preston Reed was in 2003.  This guy doesn’t come around that often.  Don’t miss him!!

Future dates.  November 20th, Tony McManus

The Best Celtic Guitarist in the World   John Renbourn
