Dear Friends of MFGS

We actually think that Spring has finally arrived in Michigan!!!  When Stefano Barone performed at the DIA on April 14th and 15th Southeast Michigan (and elsewhere) was battered with an ice storm and 400,000 folks lost power.   Tomorrow is the opening of the creamery at 20 Front Street so that must mean Spring is here!!

20 Front Street is one of the most gorgeous venues in the Midwest and the perfomers love it's intimacy and warmth but especially the sound engineering with the building design and the sound system run by all around guitar wizard Jim Rawlings.  Tomorrow night will be a great night of music there.

Goran Ivanovic and Fareed Haque

Friday April 27th  @ 20 Front Street

20 Front Street - Lake Orion - 248-783-7105

Tickets are $20

Doors at 7:30 and show at 8pm

http://20frontstreet.com/event/goran-ivanovic-fareed-haque-2/

"Although the music on this extraordinari...ly sensitive guitar-duo recording transcends genre, there's no resisting its mix of American jazz, acoustic blues, flamenco rhythm and Macedonian melody. Only two guitarists on the planet would come up with such a concoction, but Ivanovic and Haque (whose roots run to Yugoslavia and South Asia, respectively) play as if they're speaking the same musical language

                                                       HOWARD REICH, Los Angeles Times

In 2009 Fareed Haque was voted ‘Best World Guitarist’ by Guitar Player Magazine’s Readers’ poll. And Goran Ivanovic studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with masters such as Elliot Fisk and Joaquin Clerch.

To have these two brilliant guitarist on the same stage together is actually a musical moment you won't want to miss!!!

this is part of a piece they did at Trinity House in 2017!!!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UXVGUzK97A

MFGS presents Goran Ivanovic and Fareed Haque!

  #
Dear Friends of MFGS

Fareed Haque and Goran Ivanovic were in Michigan last year and they pretty much sold out both Trinity House and 20 Front Street.
They are back for another round of music on
Friday April 27th at 20 Front Street in Lake Orion.
20 Front Street, Lake Orion, MI 48362 • 248-783-7105
Tickets are $20 and available online through 20 Front Street

As a younger man Fareed Haque was thought of well enough to tour with Sting and over the years has performed in Jazz, Rock and Classical genres.  Most recently reuniting with Goran Ivanovic and touring throughout the States.  Goran Ivanovic is a Croatian born Chicagoan who performs with a nylon stringed classical guitar and creates not only gorgeous Balkan rhythms but also intricate Middle Eastern and Asian inspired cadences.

Combined together Fareed Haque and Goran Ivanovic are not a duo to be missed.
Here is one of their pieces from last time at 20 Front Street, one of the best small venues in the Midwest

This will be a great evening of music that you won't want to miss!!!

  #

Dear Friends of MFGS

20 Front Street!

They have a cafe with nice snacks and Kambucha along with Ray's ice cream

and of course on this Friday April 13th they have

from Rome Italy - Stefano Barone

at 20 Front Street this Friday, April 13th

wsg Stuart and OldSkool Sunny.

Address is the same as the venue

20 Front Street in Lake Orion -  248-783-7105

Tickets are $18 and available online http://20frontstreet.com/event/stefano-barone/

  or at the door.

There has been a time change in his appearance;

Show starts at 8pm - Doors are at 7:30

As more film directors hear his music you will see his name in the credits of future movies!

Wouldn't it be nice to say you saw him when he was at 20 Front Street in 2018!!

Barone has just completed a good portion of his tour performing in the Upper Peninsula, Petoskey, Livonia and Lansing along with a masterclass at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. Currently he is in Milwaukee hosting a masterclass for the students of 'Peck School of the Arts'

Barone's performances interweave his own compositions such as 'The Cure' and 'Us' in-between re-arrangments of Bjork's 'Human Behavior' and Philip Glass's 'Facades'  The response to his performances has been overwhelming with offers to use his music in films and appearances at festivals.

Having performed for years as a world class acoustic guitarist Stefano has embarked upon a very exploratory  approach to his compositions.  The music that he wants to create takes more than a guitar.   With the use of a multitrack machine and a 10 and 6 stringed guitar and an adaption to change one guitar into a modified cello.

Here is a brief  a powerfully haunting piece called  'The Cure'

Stefano Barone - Friday April 6th - Tickets available at the door.

  #

Dear Friends of MFGS

The weather is slowly coming around to Spring so here is an opportunity to come out to hear some remarkably new  music originating from Neapolitan roots and an infallible sense of rhythm and the ability to improvise.

True to our non profit mission of supporting the art of Fingerstyle Guitar MFGS is proud to present Stefano Barone on Friday April 6th at Trinity House Theatre.

Barone has had over 5 million views on YouTube from his groundbreaking 2008 CD 'Particolare#Uno'.  Having embraced the American Minimalist sound along the lines of Philip Glass and Steve Reich Stefano's compositions have evolved following the pursuit of the artistic sound he is inspired to create.  His music is thematic and quite distinctive as it has been woven together with his remarkable technical ability along with his 6 and 10 string guitars and occasionally layers the sound with a cello bow on one or both of the instruments.

Stefano collaborated with Pino Forastiere and Sergio Altamura to form the Italian supergroup trio of Guitar Republic. In 2010 Free Press Videographer Brian Kaufman saw Guitar Republic perform for MFGS in Ferndale and something about the unique sound they created caught his ear.  Since then Kaufman has used their music as a trio and individually as solo artists for many of his films.

This year the Detroit Free Press Film Festival has invited Stefano to perform a short set before 2 of the films Kaufman has directed using the music from Stefano and the other artists of Guitar Republic http://freepfilmfestival.com/special-events/.

In addition to his performances at various venues Stefano Barone will be teaching a masterclass for guitar students at Interlochen Center For the Arts in Michigan & Peck School for the Arts in Milwaukee Wisconsin.

"Stefano's music is akin to great storytelling, eliciting a broad range of emotions and an even broader range of sounds from an instrument that often sounds nothing like a guitar. Friday April 6th - Stefano Barone - Update on Ian Ethan Case

  #

Dear Friends of MFGS

Friday April 6th Stefano Barone will be appearing at Trinity House Theatre in Livonia.  This will be the first Detroit area performance for him on this Midwest tour.  Barone was invited to perform in the US by the Detroit Free Press Film Festival.

"Music plays an important role in making of a documentary film. A song can set the pacing of the edit, reinforce an emotional note and evoke a mood in a single scene or throughout the film. Detroit Free Press senior video producer and director Brian Kaufman use of music is an integral part of his editing process as evident in his films “12th and Clairmount,” “Predator/Prey: The Fight for Isle Royale’s Wolves,” and his latest film “The Wall” that is world premiering at Freep Film Festival this year. And the man behind much of that music is internationally known contemporary acoustic guitarist and composer Stefano Barone".                                             Detroit Free Press

Initially Stefano was playing piano and guitar at a young age in Naples.  In 2003 Stefano first heard the album  "Arial Boundries" by the amazing guitarist Michael Hedges.  Barone changed his approach to music after hearing that and moved to Rome to study composition and technique with Pino Forastiere. He embraced contemporary music, especially American Minimalism along the lines of Steve Reich and Philip Glass.

Stefano Barone was introduced to us by his initial groundbreaking CD 'Particolare#uno' in 2008 and his piece 'Batman/Alexander Supertramp' had over 3.5 million views on YouTube.  His first appearance in the Detroit area was in 2010 with the Italian contemporary trio 'Guitar Republic' consisting of Barone, Pino Forastiere and Sergio Altamura.

Barone has now evolved his music into a powerful dynamic blend of 6 and 10 string guitars along with a multitrack machine and even incorporating a cello bow by adjusting the fretboard of his D-28 Martin guitar.  Here is a short take of Stefano performing a Philip Glass piece 'Facades'.   https://www.facebook.com/stefbarone/videos/10213425132014399/

"Stefano's music is akin to great storytelling, eliciting a broad range of emotions and an even broader range of sounds from an instrument that often sounds nothing like a guitar. As a documentary filmmaker, I was immediately drawn to its power."           Emmy Award Winning Director – Brian Kaufman

From Rome, Italy - Stefano Barone - Multiple Dates

  #

Dear Friends of MFGS

We have another amazing set of concerts coming up!  Starting,

from Rome Italy,

  contemporary guitarist/composer

Stefano Barone

Stefano Barone has been to the States several times in the past as a solo artist and also part of the avant-garde Italian trio Guitar Republic.

This year Stefano was invited to the US to perform during the Detroit Free Press Film Festival April 11th - 15th.  Free Press Executive Video Producer and Director Brian Kaufman has used Stefano's compositions for several of his most recent films including this years world premiere of 'The Wall'.  Barone will perform a short set prior to 2 films and then an afternoon engagement and discussion on music and film with Brian Kaufman & Stefano.

Born in Naples, Barone studied piano in his youth and then turned to the acoustic guitar. In 2003 after hearing the late Michael Hedges striking album 'Arial Boundaries', Barone changed his approach to music and moved to Rome to study with the renowned Pino Forastiere.  Barone embraced contemporary music, in particular American Minimalism following along the lines of Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Dominic Frasca.

His pieces are created with a 6 and 10 stringed guitar, a multi-track machine  along with using a cello bow to orchestrate  his compositions and arrangements. His music has a cinematic quality to it because it creates perfect balance bordering between acoustic and electronic sound.

Barone will be appearing at a series of appearances and performances in Michigan while he is here.

Friday April 6th - Trinity House Theatre - Tickets are $20 and available at www.fingerstyle.org

Friday April 13th - 20 Front Street in Lake Orion - Tickets $18 and available at 20 Front Street, www.20frontstreet.com
